Event-driven Tactile Sensors Design

[EW-EDTSD]-Tab

We are exploring capacitive, resistive, and piezoelectric materials, and mixed-mode subthreshold CMOS circuits with the aim of combining them for a hybrid skin capable of reacting to a broad range of tactile stimuli with low latency and low power consumption. We aim to reproduce the rich response of human tactile afferents to exploit their highly compressive and informative encoding, transmitting information only during contact and during changes of the contact.

We have just sent out a first test chip with prototype circuits for fabrication, in collaboration with the Bio-Inspired Circuits and Systems group at the University of Groningen!

  • Subthreshold mixed-mode CMOS circuits
  • Design, simulation, and layout using Cadence Virtuoso
  • Monte-Carlo and noise simulations
